In a world full of distractions, few people stay quietly committed to their passion. Zulfiker Mahmud Zain is one of those few — a focused and driven cinematographer and creative director who’s building his path with vision, patience, and consistency.
A Childhood Behind the Camera
Zulfiker’s fascination with the visual medium began in his early childhood. While most kids were busy with games, he was capturing moments with his Sony Handycam — shooting everyday life, recording family memories, and unknowingly laying the foundation for his career.
This wasn’t just a phase. Over time, his interest evolved into something much deeper — a connection to the camera as a storytelling tool. He began studying framing, experimenting with lighting, and understanding the language of cinema, one shot at a time.
The Breakthrough moment
As the years passed, Zulfiker kept building his experience. A turning point came when he got the opportunity to shoot a live concert featuring artists like Black Zang and Angel Noor, organized by Rishkafest. He not only handled the visuals with confidence but also edited a compelling video that quickly gained attention on Instagram.
That one video became his breakthrough — proving that his instincts, taste, and technical skills were ready for real-world impact.
Around the same time, he worked as the assistant cinematographer in Insaaf — a key moment that added professional weight to his growing portfolio.
Focused on the Craft
Since then, Zulfiker has stayed consistent, working on various projects including commercials, short films, and creative visuals. His process is calm and calculated. He brings a director’s eye and a cinematographer’s detail-oriented mindset to every set he steps on.
He draws heavy inspiration from Christopher Nolan, not just in terms of filmmaking, but in the way Nolan handles structure, rhythm, and immersion. Like Nolan, Zulfiker doesn’t seek the spotlight — he focuses on depth, quality, and creating work that speaks for itself.
What's Next
Currently, Zulfiker is working as an Assistant Director and Assistant DOP on a visual detective story project titled “Sur-er Manjil”, blending cinematic stills and storytelling photography.
Looking ahead, he has his sights set on joining the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Hungary, under the Film Production department — a move that aligns with his vision of mastering both the artistic and technical dimensions of filmmaking.
